吴山明(1940——2021)浙江省浦江县前吴村人,中国画家、美术教育家,当代中国画坛重要领军者、浙派人物画杰出代表、中国美术学院教授,享受国务院特殊专家津贴,荣获第二届中国美术学院“哲匠奖”金奖。曾任中国美术学院学术委员会委员、教学督导,中国美术学院中国画系主任、中国美术学院造型艺术学部主任,中国美术学院国家二级教授、博士生导师,中国艺术研究院博士生导师。1985年主持编著中国美术学院中国画系教学大纲并延用至今。开创《淡宿墨》审美人物绘画新疆域。

主要学术论文:中国画意笔线描简论及出版意笔线描人物。在联合国认定的非物质文化遗产龙泉青瓷上进行开创性绘画探索长达七年时间,取得历史性成功,出版大型画册《水秀山青》。作品为中国美院,吴山明美术馆收藏。浙江大学特聘教授,浙江理工大学特聘教授,浙江师范大学终身荣誉教授,中国美术家协会理事、中国画学会顾问,中国国家画院院委、中国国家画院国画院副院长、研究员,浙江省美术家协会副主席、顾问,杭州市文联名誉主席、杭州市美术家协会主席、名誉主席,浙江省人民政府参事、杭州市人民政府文化顾问,浙江省中国人物画研究会会长、名誉会长,浙江省国际美术交流协会主席,西泠书画院院长、西泠印社理事,民进中央开明画院副院长、浙江开明画院院长,浙江省政协诗书画之友社理事、副理事长,第八届全国人民代表大会代表,浙江省第九届、第十届人民代表大会代表、常委,浙江省政协第五届委员、第六届常委,中国民主促进会中央委员、浙江省委副主任委员。大型山水画作品《巍巍太行》收藏悬挂在北京人民大会堂,大型松柏《麟凤之象》;大型人物画创作《香格里拉》由杭州市政府吴山明美术馆永久收藏。肖像画及创作:《遵义之春》《大泽聚义》《黄宾虹》《潘天寿》《陈毅》《徐悲鸿》《林枫眠》《弘一法师》等分别收藏于中国国家博物馆,中国美术馆,中国国家军事博物馆,中国美术学院,吴山明美术馆,浦江山明美术院。

Wu Shanming (1940—2021) was from Qianwu Village, Pujiang County, Zhejiang Province, China. He was a Chinese painter and art educator, an important leader in contemporary Chinese painting circles, an outstanding representative of Zhejiang-style figure painting, and a professor at the China Academy of Art. He had special government allowances from the State Council and won the gold award for the second Zhejiang Craftsman Award at the China Academy of Art. He served as a member and teaching supervisor of the Academic Committee of China Academy of Art, head of the Chinese Painting Department and head of the School of Plastic Arts at China Academy of Art. He was also a national second-level professor, doctoral supervisor at China Academy of Art, and doctoral supervisor at the Chinese National Academy of Arts. In 1985 he presided over compiling teaching guidelines for the Department of Chinese Painting at China Academy of Art which are still in use today. He pioneered new aesthetic realms in figure painting with his Light Dwelling Ink series.

His main academic papers include brief discussions on freehand brushwork in Chinese painting and published works on freehand brushwork figures. For seven years he conducted pioneering artistic explorations on Longquan celadon—a UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage—achieving historic success and publishing a large-scale album Water Show Mountain Green. His works are collected by China Academy Of Fine Arts and Wu Shanming Art Museum. He held various prestigious positions such as Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang University, Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Lifetime Honorary Professor at Zhejiang Normal University; he was also a council member for both The Artists Association Of China and The Society Of Chinese Painting as well as serving as advisor to The National Painting Institute Of The National Art Museum Of China where he held roles such as deputy director-general among others; vice-chairman and advisor to The Artists Association Of Zhejiang Province; honorary chairman for both Hangzhou Federation Of Literary And Art Circles And Hangzhou Artists Association; cultural consultant to both People's Government Of Hangzhou And People's Government Of Zhejiang Province; president emeritus for both Research Society For Figure Paintings In Zhejiang And International Association For Exchange Of Arts In Zhejiang; headmaster for Xiling Seal Society and Xiling Painting and Calligraphy Academy; vice-president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts of the China Democratic League and president of Zhejiang Enlightened Painting Academy; council member and vice-chairman of the Friends of Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Society of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; representative of the Eighth National People's Congress; representative and standing committee member of the Ninth and Tenth Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress; member of the Fifth Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and standing committee member of the Sixth Zhejiang Provincial Committee; central committee member of the China Democratic League and deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee. His large-scale landscape painting Majestic Taihang is collected and displayed in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and his large pine and cypress painting Symbol of the Qilin and Phoenix and large figure painting Shangri-La are permanently collected by the Wu Shanming Art Museum of the Hangzhou Municipal Government. His portraits and creations such as Spring in Zunyi Gathering of Heroes in Daze, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, Chen Yi, Xi Zhongxun, Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian, and Master Hongyi are collected by the National Museum of China, the National Art Museum of China, the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, the China Academy of Art, the Wu Shanming Art Museum, and the Shanming Art Institute in Pujiang.
